Volunteer Ecuador

While Ecuador may be one of the smaller countries in South America it is packed with a natural diversity that allows you to experience adventures from the Amazon Basin, Andean volcanoes, tropical forests to balmy Pacific coastal breezes.

Ecuador's name comes from the equator which it straddles. The capital of Ecuador is Quito, which has been declared a world heritage site. Ecuador is bordered by Colombia to the north, Peru to the east and south and the Pacific Ocean to the west.

The country is divided ethnically with approximately a quarter belonging to indigenous cultures. Regional and ethnic issues contribute to political instability for Ecuador's democracy primarily due to the encroachment of the indigenous population's land for oil exports.

According to the 2010 census, Ecuador's population is at roughly 14 million people. The primary languages spoken are Spanish and Quechua and the majority of the population identifies as Roman Catholic.
