A pre-med student volunteer at the Nsaba Health Clinic in Ghana would assist in various non-medical aspects of care for patients. These duties may be: in numerous outreach clinics, educational lectures ...
Medical internship placements offer hands-on experience and training in a supervised medical setting for pre-med students and other undergraduates interested in pursuing a medical career. These placements do not require interns to have any formal medical training and will primarily focus on providing a learning experience.
The range of tasks in which medical interns can participate varies from one placement to the next and is often also dependant upon the experience of the volunteer. However, generally these placements require interns to spend a portion of their time assisting with non-medical patient care, administration and training.
Medical interns will also spend some of their time following doctors on their rounds, learning about the operations of each ward and helping with basic procedures in cases where the local medical staff are comfortable and confident that the task is within the abilities of the intern.
