Following orientation, volunteers will transfer to their placements and begin work. However, our staff are always available to provide support.
We put a great deal of effort into ensuring that our volunteers are matched with placements that are exactly in line with their background, interests and skill set. As a result, the vast majority of our volunteers stay with the placement with which they are initially assigned. This is important, as getting the placement connection right the first time helps us to maximize the effectiveness of the contribution of each volunteer.
That being said, there are times when a placement is simply not the best fit. If a volunteer is having a challenge at the placement, the BaseCamp team is available to help. We will first connect with both the volunteer and a representative from the organization to review the work plan and ensure that the expectations are clear. If a volunteer is still not comfortable with a given placement, our staff will work with the volunteer to find a different but comparable placement.
